Gorilla trekking is the headline, but the country rewards a slower loop: Kigali for a day, Volcanoes for the trek, then Lake Kivu to decompress.
When to go
June to September and December to February are driest. Permits sell out four to six months ahead.
How long
Seven to ten days. Two nights minimum near Volcanoes so a weather day does not cost you the trek.

- Gorilla permits are 1,500 dollars per person and non-refundable once issued
- Trek fitness matters more than altitude; expect three to six hours of wet forest
- Kigali is genuinely worth a full day, not an airport transfer
